Lalique Fish Bowl Large
Lalique Bowl
Rene Lalique "Poissons" (fishes) bowl
The large clear opalescent glass bowl in the 'poissons' (fishes) design has spiraling bodies of the fish on the sides of the bowl circling around bubbles on the underneath side of the bottom, which in turn gently spiral outward from a central cluster of bubbles. Each fish, which is head downward, seems to breathe out two bubbles toward the bottom cluster.
The maker's mark, in this case "VDA France," is molded into the interior bottom of the bowl. VDA (which stands for Verriere D'Alsace) was used by the Rene Lalique Company only between 1921 and 1925 without the 'Lalique' signature. Thus, this bowl is rarer and earlier than most others on the market.
